Folk
Art
Historically influenced
paintings of old buildings such as barns, mills and churches, and animals
like horses, cows and wildlife evoke a sense of a time gone by. Lisa Curry
Mair lives in a 200 year old farmhouse in one of Vermont's oldest towns.
The highlight of the carriage-house-wing studio is the bank of windows
which encourage the artist to gaze out at the mountains, pastures, horses
and centuries-old stonewalls. Inspired by these views, and using techniques
such as golden glazes, naive perspectives and traditional borders, Lisa
creates images which are reminiscent of old tavern signs and carriage
paintings.
Canvasworks' folk
art paintings can be ordered as small floorcloths, fireboards or as paintings
to hang. Hanging paintings are one of made two ways:
Frameless paintings
are made by adhering canvas to masonite with the canvas wrapped around
all four edges of the board. The canvas is then primed and painted with
the entire edge painted as well. The painting is then sealed with polyurethane,
making it easy to clean and very practical for hanging on kitchen walls
where grease can be a problem.

Framed paintings
are canvas on board as well, but are framed with hand-painted, faux-grained
1.5" wood frames which have a hand-rubbed varnish and wax finish.
