Be it a runner in front of a kitchen sink, or a room-filling canvas, most of the floorcloths made at Canvasworks are custom pieces. That is, they are cut to size to fit an existing area and are painted with designs which are created or adapted to emphasize clients' interests, collections and tastes. From folk art paintings of sheep, horses or farms to ornate persian rug designs, each new composition reflects the artist's distinct style. Kitchens, informal dining rooms, sun porches and bedrooms are favorite places for floral motifs. Stencils. stamps and/or freehand techniques are used to create beautiful, flowing themes. A Canvasworks trademark is the use of intricate, vine-like elements encircling a more static central design. In kitchens, vegetables or fruits can be used to support a pattern which already exists in tiles, draperies or upholstery. Variations on a theme:
Even the oldest oriental designs are basically ornate geometric patterns. At Canvasworks the computer is used to create all kinds of repeating patterns- from simple squares in alternating colors to medallions, quilt patterns, and three-dimensional tumbling blocks to Escher-inspired interlocking tesselations or loose, contemporary splashes of repeating elements. With your input about your favorite styles, swatches of curtain fabric or snips of wallpaper, your own custom-designed geometric pattern will be developed. You will have the opportunity to work with the designer to create the perfect floorcloth which will be unique to your home. Variations on a theme:
Do you have a favorite scene of your village or a building which inspires memories of a special event? Do you collect a certain china pattern or absolutely adore the work of a particular artist?
